Eight (8) years’ senior educational leadership success with the 5th largest U. S. medical school that included direct clinical management, direct medical and healthcare careers student education, program development, cancer research, human and financial resources management – embellished the school’s reputation on a national basis, improved student and faculty recruitment and several awards for educational technology advancement.
Seven (7) years’ volunteer leadership success with the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce Talent/Education Council to develop “college-ready” high school graduates in Austin ISD, align secondary education priorities and curriculum with the needs of regional and national technology employers – resulting in year-to-year measurable gains and high college enrollment rates.
Improved Austin ISD cabinet effectiveness and presence in the region by aligning business leader mentors with cabinet members and superintendent. Included engagement with the president of ACC for advancement of ACC curriculum development and enrollment for advanced placement of graduating seniors and satisfaction of continuing education students.
Volunteer success working directly with University of Houston System leadership to measurably increase biennial funding through effective strategy and presentation work. In successive legislative sessions, the University met all program funding objectives and no funding cuts.
Continue to advise the University’s Austin lobbyist on relationship building.
Five years’ experience working as a Regional Vice President for Control Data Corporation, the second-largest computer equipment manufacturer at the time of employment, to expand its unique individualized eLearning technology for remote learning and occupational training and safety skills. This distributed I T system employed internal email, chat and notes functions for remote users before these applications became available across mainstream educational and business functions.
Recruited, hired and managed five eLearning Center directors and staffs over a region from Utah to Louisiana from regional headquarters in Houston, Texas. Only Regional V P to be given an autonomous marketing and public relations annual budget. Beat P & L targets for four years.
Transitioned upward to direct CDC’s institute in Houston for software development, computer and customer I T operations training and the maintenance and repair of CDC equipment on customers’ sites. Managed an enrollment director and supervised instructor staff.
Earned a graduate degree in business leading to a strong drive to lead a company from the top. Four very productive years as a Vice President of one the Top Ten New York advertising agencies, Bozell & Jacobs, Inc. Many highlights included writing and producing 33 annual reports for public companies that won awards both from the financial and advertising professions. Work closely with engineers, developers and scientists to market an array of highly engineered products and services to global markets.
Wrote industry speeches for the former Chairman of Exxon Corporation and other industry leaders. Results led our office to be the most profitable of all 14 B & J offices worldwide.
Hill Country Legacy Foundation, Marble Falls. Worked with Mr. Marc Serif, AOL.com co-founder, and his board, to create and launch their first web site and to create all donor recruitment and community outreach communication materials along with a social media strategy. Continued to advise on donor strategy and growing web presence for another year.
Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. Long-time member and volunteer to the Education/Talent Council of the Chamber under the leadership of Drew Scheberle. Worked to increase high school graduates’ college readiness. Measurable increases resulted.
Also, worked with the cabinet of the Austin Independent School District on two initiatives. First, matched business advisors with each cabinet member to increase functional cooperation.
Second, co-initiator of the first ever Succession Planning Conference hosted by Austin ISD that was also attended by 13 regional school districts. The two-day conference was strengthened by the presence and comments of a colleague and friend, Mr. Earl Maxwell, CEO of St. David’s Foundation. He was the second day keynote speaker.
Austin, Texas Technology Ecosystem; U. S. Clean Tech Open, southwest region competition, Austin, Texas. Served three years (2014-2016) as a team marketing and go-to-market mentor and advisor in each annual competition. All three startups are still going and growing.
Metropolitan Breakfast Club, Austin’s premier speakers club. Volunteered to lead all aspects of the creative and content processes to design and produce a new organization web site that would meet or exceed the needs of the board, members and attendees. With confirmation from the president and board, I researched more than 50 effective Word Press designs, outlined the buyer persona as the target audience, researched all available and new photography and wrote all content except the updates on speakers. I managed the web developer who built out the site and the testing process. All my work was done on or ahead of scheduled and contributed pro bono.
Texas State University 3-Day Start-up Conference - 2016. Engaged over 61 students, from four colleges within the university, to participate for three days with their start-up concepts in an elimination competition. Texas State University, Star Park Incubator – worked with the founder of another clean-tech start up with a revolutionary process for converting rice hulls into industrial “clean” silica. Also referred the leadership team to two raw material sources and relationships.
Texas State University, Star Park Incubator – worked with the CEO of a breakthrough start up that has designed, and in prototype manufacturing using 3-D printing, a patient site blood work diagnostic tool for commercial use by primary caregivers and first responders.
Patent portfolio (7) holder – worked with this creative clean technology inventor to develop a validation and testing process for a new epicloidal design for gears used in wind turbines. Package is currently being marketed to large gearbox manufacturers.
Ongoing mentoring of the CEO of a dynamic predictive analytics services firm dedicated to clean energy markets to accurately forecast both clean energy purchases and delivery demands.
Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce – active member of the Business/Education Partnership and Natural Resources Committees.
